Summertime has hit here in full force. One benefit for me in these sweltering days is that it makes me get up early and do outside chores while it is cool enough to not die!
This reminds me of how important adaptation is in everyday life. Seasons change and there are many things that happen outside of our control. Sometimes it is overwhelming and makes me feel defeated before I even begin.
You can’t control the wind, but you can adjust the sails.
Most likely there is something in your life that is not going according to plan. Maybe something you did or someone one else threw a monkey wrench in the motor. Or life just throws a curve ball out of thin air. It is normal to be annoyed, disappointed, stressed out or angry. For me, my default is just to try harder and keep going. When this doesn't work I move to some serious checking out behavior- too much Netflix.
A more productive solution is to reset my sails. I can always choose how I respond to life. Acknowledge how hard it is. Or even how disappointed I am in the situation and then move to how do I want to BE in this season or this situation. What can I be thankful for right now in the midst of this? I can choose forgiveness. I can choose laughter. I can choose to draw close to God rather than away from Him. I can choose to keep moving forward. Because that is who I choose to BE!!
And so that’s my challenge for you (and me too) this week— Think about choosing You! Choosing Life. Choosing Joy. Choose to laugh and sing!
Because that is how you’ll win in the end!
"It's not the load that breaks you down, it's the way you carry it!"
How can you readjust the load?
